Inmate accused of punching 2 Holding Center officers
A Bissell Street man incarcerated in the Erie County Holding Center was charged Monday with two counts of felony assault after punching two officers in the face, Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported.
Teddy Hicks, 48, was out of his cell for breakfast at about 5:30 a.m. Monday when he allegedly struck Corrections Officer James Purcell in the face and then tossed two more punches that were blocked by Purcell.
Shortly thereafter, sheriff's officials said, Hicks was being moved to a more secure housing area following the first assault when he allegedly punched Lt. Darryl Gaines in the jaw. Purcell and Gaines were both treated by private physicians for their injuries.
