Chester L. Miller Jr., a retired marketing manager for J&M Distributors, died Sunday in Sisters Hospital, St. Joseph Campus, Cheektowaga. He was 88.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Miller was a Marine Corps sergeant during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a marketing manager at Utica Club and later at J&M Distributors before he retired in the early 1980s.
Mr. Miller was a founder and officer of the Beverly Hills Athletic Association in Cheektowaga. He was a two-time commander of Frank Gierlach Post, American Legion; a past commander of Francis J. Donovan Post; and served Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. Post 6251, Veterans of Foreign Wars, as both surgeon and assistant quartermaster.
Mr. Miller served as president of the International Sportsman's Club and served on the first Cheektowaga Youth Board. He served 18 years as a Democratic committeeman with the Town of Cheektowaga and was president of the Erie County Legion Past Commanders Club.
Mr. Miller was president of the Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church Holy Name Society and received its man of the year award. He was president and secretary of Leonard Post Life Members.
His wife of 58 years, Evelyn A. Schmidlin Miller, died in 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Marillin Filipski and Rhea Roskey, and a brother, James D.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Queen of Martyrs Church, 180 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga.
