Rose C. Scerra, ran shoe repair business <br> Jan. 16, 1908 -- March 19, 2010

Rose C. Scerra, who operated a shoe repair business on Walden Avenue for many years, died Friday. She was 102.

Born Rose Russo in West Virginia, she lived in Coudersport, Pa., before she and her husband, Cesare, moved to Buffalo in 1950 to open up their shoe repair store.

When Mrs. Scerra retired, she became active in the Fillmore Leroy Area Residents Association and as volunteer with its food distribution program. She also was a longtime Board of Elections inspector.

An active member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church for 60 years, she was one of the first parishioners to become a Eucharistic minister. She also was a member of the Ladies Sodality and Ladies Auxiliary of St. John.

Her husband died in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Lyman and Delores Engle, and a son, Vincent C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today in Blessed Trinity Church, 317 Leroy St.
