Vandals smash windows, steal from vehicles

NIAGARA FALLS -- A rash of vandalism involving smashed windows and thefts from parked vehicles in recent weeks continued Sunday with the report of a brick thrown through the back window of a parked pickup truck.

Peter A. Scalza, of 81st Street, told police the vandalism occurred overnight while the truck was parked in his driveway. Damage was estimated at $300.

Burglars take equipment valued at $3,600 in Falls

NIAGARA FALLS -- Tasha N. Jones told police early Sunday that a burglar had kicked in her back door on Whitney Avenue and took television sets, computers and other equipment valued at $3,600. Damage to the door was estimated at $250.

Woman accused of crashing into car, then smashing it

NIAGARA FALLS -- A 33-year-old Cleveland Avenue woman told police that another woman deliberately crashed a car into the victim's rented automobile, damaging the driver's side door, and then attacked the damaged car with a hammer, smashing the windshield and all four hubcaps at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday at Pierce Avenue and 18th Street.

Shannon S. Works, 21, of Linwood Avenue, was arrested on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree menacing, police said. Officers said they found a large hammer in her purse when it was searched at Police Headquarters.
