Q: Where did Russ Mitchell go when he left "The Early Show" on CBS, and under what conditions did he leave?

-- George Arthur, Buffalo.

A: The "conditions" were twofold. When Erica Hill was made full time at CBS News, after her splitting duties between CBS and CNN, becoming the news reader on the weekday "Early Show" -- while retaining her co-anchor job on the Saturday edition -- apparently was part of the deal. When she took over that duty from Mitchell, he was made national correspondent for CBS News while remaining the anchor of the Sunday "CBS Evening News."

However, Mitchell was off the air for a couple of weeks recently due to a bad break -- literally. He suffered a broken ankle after slipping at home; he required surgery and had to stay off his feet for a while, or at least as much as possible.

Q: When will "Walker, Texas Ranger" be back on the Hallmark Channel?

-- Holly Allen, Milwaukee

A: We're not sure when -- or if -- the series might be back there specifically, but in the meantime, Chuck Norris' feet and fists are seeing action elsewhere. You can find a couple of marathons of repeats this week: Three back-to-back episodes are scheduled Wednesday on USA Network, and lately, eight-hour festivals of Norris' CBS series appear Thursdays on cable's Sleuth channel.
