Today, 2 p.m.: Poetry reading featuring Ansie Baird, Ann Goldsmith and Sam Magavern. Indigo Art, 74 Allen St.

Today, 3:30 p.m.: Poems inspired by Charles Burchfield, a special Rooftop Poetry Club reading in conjunction with the current "Heat Waves in a Swamp" exhibition. Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave.


Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.: UB Poetics Program reading by and discussion with Robert Grenier, minimalist/conceptualist poet and key figure associated with the emergence of "language-centered" writing in the early 1970s. Grenier is the author of more than a dozen books. His recent "holographic" poems explore the spatial and temporal contingencies of writing as a graphic art form. Tuesday, 8 p.m.: UB Poetics Program reading featuring Robert Grenier. Karpeles Manuscript Museum, 453 Porter Ave.


Friday, 7 p.m.: Small Press Poetry Fest, the second annual marathon poetry reading preceding the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair, featuring author readings and performances curated by the editors of such leading regionally based small presses as BlazeVox, Earth's Daughters, Outside Voices, House Press, Habenicht Press, BookThug (Toronto), plus more to be announced. Western New York Book Arts Collaborative, 468 Washington St. (near Mohawk St.)


Saturday, noon to 6 p.m: Buffalo Small Press Book Fair, an afternoon-long exhibition and trade show featuring more than 80 small and/or independent press publishers, regionally based booksellers, literary sponsoring organizations, arts and literary magazines, and individual authors. Saturday, 7 p.m.: Ambience Poetry Slam presented by R.S.V.P in Ambience LLC. Slam poets and spoken-word artists representing the Buffalo, Rochester, New York City and Toronto areas compete (entrance fee is $30) for a chance at the $350 top prize.
