Leonard F. "Buzz" Beishline III of Williamsville, a retired insurance agent, died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 80.
Born in Scranton, Pa., Mr. Beishline was raised in Niagara Falls' LasSalle neighborhood and in 1947 graduated from LaSalle High School, where he was football captain. He attended St. Lawrence University.
A former Navy reservist, Mr. Beishline worked at Bell Aircraft before starting his insurance career with Massachusetts Mutual in 1957. He joined Allstate in 1962 and was an agent in Niagara Falls and later Williamsville before he retired in 2002. He received numerous awards from the company.
Mr. Beishline was active in the Niagara Falls Junior Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club, which he served as president for many years. In the late 1960s he helped found the LaSalle High booster club, and steered many student athletes toward college admission and scholarships.
Mr. Beishline was a Boy Scout leader and a baseball coach. A golfer, he was co-president, with his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Stulik, of the Amherst Dance Club.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Susan Perlman, Barbara Kolodziej and Mary Jane Ortman; two stepsons, Dr. Edward Stulik and Kenneth Stulik; two brothers, John and Thomas; and a sister, Judith Pershing.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. todayin Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Amherst.
