Intruders demand drugs during home invasion

BATAVIA -- Two men broke into a home on Vine Street early Thursday and demanded drugs, city police said.

The men, whose faces were wrapped in white towels or bandannas, broke into the home at 20 Vine St. at about 5 a.m., according to Detective Sgt. Patrick J. Corona. They demanded drugs and threatened to use a gun, although none was displayed.

Three people were in the home at the time, Corona said. One of them fought with one of the bandits, whose face and nose were injured. The bandits ran from the residence empty-handed, Corona said.

Police arrest woman in nightclub fracas

A Riverside woman faces several charges after fighting with security and Buffalo police after being ejected from Town Ballroom at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Sarah L. Haggerty, 26, of Baxter Street, was charged with assault, harassment and attempted criminal mischief.

Police said she also punched a woman in the face, attempted to kick out the windows of a police car, then struck a Central District police officer in the face at the Erie County Holding Center.

Man linked to sale of untaxed cigarettes

A Shirley Avenue man peddling untaxed cigarettes on an inbound Metro Rail train near Lafayette Square was arrested Tuesday, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority police said.

Gregory Saxon, 56, had 21 packs of untaxed cigarettes and nearly $400 in cash, according to Officer Casey Coggins who apprehended Saxon. Police said that at about 11:30 a.m., they saw Saxon making transactions on the train and Saxon did not have a peddler's permit.

He was charged with attempting to evade the state tobacco tax and possessing untaxed or unlawfully stamped cigarettes, as well as violating a city ordinance for soliciting.
