Gonzaga-Florida State Live Thread

No. 8 Gonzaga (26-6) vs. No. 9 Florida State (22-9)

2ND HALF

FINAL: Gonzaga 67, Florida State 60: Zags steal it at the line down the stretch. Wasn't a very impressive second half, however.

:42.4: Gonzaga 64, Florida State 58: Snaer misses two FTs for 'Noles with 1:37 left and chance to cut deficit to two. Zags then make five of six from the line before Snaer 3.

4:19: Gonzaga 55, Florida State 50: A pair of threes by Delvidas Dulkys of Lithuania have 'Noles pumped. Zags hitting a wall on offensive end. Ball movement isn't what it was in first half. Lot of one on one and 'Noles quick guards are feasting on the steal.

7:54: Gonzaga 51, Florida State 42: 'Noles back within single digits for first time since 16-7. Much, much, much better play out of guards this half. Penetration is creating opportunities for Singleton and Alabi. Zags have just six FGs in half, four of them by Boldin. Gonzaga turnover count fast on the rise.

9:17: Gonzaga 51, FSU 38: 'Noles take timeout. Singleton rimmed out a three that would have cut deficit to eight. Goodson comes back with layup at other end for Zags.

11:40: Gonzagara 48, Florida State 36: Sacre jams out of the timeout.

13:12: Gonzaga 46, Florida State 36: Zags coach Mark Few takes a timeout after 'Noles reel off six straight, all on the inside, four of them by Singleton. Florida State much more aggressive in their man defense this half and they're forcing turnovers. Bouldin's the only Zag to score so far this half.

15:38: Gonzaga 41, Florida State 27: Zags guard Matt Bouldin comes out and schools Deividas Dulkys, scoring six points before 'Noles sub in a defensive switch. Lead was 18 before FSU answered with a dunk by Singleton and a layup by Snaer off a steal.

HALFTIME: Gonzaga 35, Florida State 19: Zags have been a great first-half team all season and the trend held up here. They make teams work-work-work on the defensive end and usually end up with a quality look. Even if they don't they've chipped away at the opponent's endurance. Could be a real interesting matchup if they advance and get Syracuse Sunday.

1ST HALF

3:56: Gonzaga 28, Florida St. 14: 'Noles having better success getting it inside and hitting boards but Zags continue to get quality looks on the offensive end. Great inside-outside balance. Not at all a fan of Florida State's guard play.

7:46: Gonzaga 24, Florida State 9: Right now the 'Noles look like they got here riding ACC coattails. Not the least bit impressive except for Solomon Alabi's ability to dunk uncontested underneath. FSU can't get transition game going and can't break down Zags 'D' out of the halfcourt. What's left? Zags 9-15 from field. FSU 5-16.

11:46: Gonzaga 16, Florida St. 7: 7-foot sophomore Robert Sacre challenging 'Noles on inside. He just had a three-point play and he's back at the line for two shots. Crowd's filled in nicely. Probably 90 percent of capacity at this point. Thinking FSU is going to have to pour in threes to have any chance here. Just not looking like a good matchup for them.

15:34: Gonzaga 7, Florida St. 2: Seminoles have worst color scheme in college basketball. They also don't handle the ball very well. Two-on-one break and a bounce pass knee-level to a 7-footer??? Turned it over 520 times on season.

7:07 p.m. : Arena less than half full as we near tipoff for the start of the second session. . . .  Zags coming off 81-62 loss to St. Mary's in the West Coast Conference Tournament. Challenging nonconference schedule included wins over Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Illinois . . . Florida State lost, 58-52, to North Carolina State in the ACC Tournament. Best nonconference win was over Marquette.
