DOWNTOWN BUFFALO -- Buffalo's Cobblestone District is flowing with 'Cuse supporters this afternoon as basketball fans from near and far gather in Western New York for the NCAA Tournament subregional tipoff in HSBC Arena on Friday.
Not all fans spotted downtown were wearing orange though. A group of Mizzou fans enjoyed Buffalo food and drink while catching some of this afternoon's games on the array of televisions at Benchwarmers on Mississippi Street.
Dennis Harper, Rebecca Highland, Jay Lindner, and Terry Woodruff of Columbia, Mo., in town this weekend to watch the University of Missouri basketball team compete, watched games at Benchwarmers on Mississippi Street next to HSBC Arena.
Syracuse fans from Hudson, also took advantage of the wall of televisions playing NCAA Tournament games throughout the day.
3:25 p.m.: More Syracuse and Mizzou fans are here at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery on the corner of Pearl and Seneca streets downtown. There's even a Mizzou male cheerleader here who decided to forgo a team trip to Niagara Falls today and watch some basketball instead.
A table of Duke fans from Canada declined to be interviewed on camera; one had called in sick to work today.
5:30 p.m.: The parking lot at the Anchor Bar on Main Street is full of cars with mostly New York license plates and the bar is crowded with native New Yorkers, too -- Buffalonians to be exact.
"We're definitely here to see Syracuse put the hammer down," said John Grant of Buffalo.
Grant, who has been to the Anchor Bar many times before, said it's the wings that keep him coming back. His friend, Leo Zanca, had his first order of Anchor Bar wings Thursday afternoon.
"They're out of sight," said Zanca.
