Jamestown man charged with DWI after traffic stop

MAYVILLE -- A Jamestown man was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies stopped him for speeding on Route 430 in the Town of Ellicott at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Luis A. Torres, 27, of East Sixth Street, was issued summonses to appear in Ellicott Town Court.

In another traffic stop shortly before midnight Saturday on Hoag Road in the Town of Harmony, deputies charged Joshua F. Lair, 31, of West Main Street, Ashville, with aggravated unlicensed operation after they discovered his license had been suspended.

Two face charges in theft of shotgun

ELBA -- Two men are due in Elba Town Court on Tuesday evening to answer charges in connection with the theft of a shotgun Feb. 4 from a residence on Hundredmark Road, Genesee County sheriff's deputies report.

Matthew Scott Williams, 22, of Hundredmark Road, and Matthew Legler, 20, of Paul Road, Chili, are charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, deputies said.

Felony assault charged in beating of girlfriend

A Buffalo man faces charges in the beating of his girlfriend.

City police charged James Dixon, 21, of Bissell Avenue, with a felony count of assault and a misdemeanor count of false impersonation because, police allege, he initially gave them a false name.

The victim reported that when she refused to have sex with Dixon he punched her, slapped her and rammed her head into a door frame, requiring treatment in Erie County Medical Center.

Armed robbers take boy's MP3 player

A 15-year-old boy was robbed of his MP3 player at gunpoint Saturday afternoon, police said.

Through his sister, the boy told police that two men punched him in the face and took the device at gunpoint at Doat and Zelmer streets at about 3:40 p.m. The robbers than drove off in a green four-door vehicle, police said.

3 charged after crack is found in East Side home

Buffalo police found crack cocaine and made three arrests after receiving a complaint about a home in the 200 block of Sears Street on the East Side.

Charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance are two occupants of the home -- Vokira Small, 26, and Gerald Hunley, 23 -- and Victor Small, 24, of Parkdale Avenue. Vokira Small and Hunley also are charged with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child because they were living in the home with two children.
