Hundreds of job seekers swell CareerFest

CHEEKTOWAGA -- More than 1,250 job seekers turned out today for the CareerFest at the Millennium Airport Hotel Buffalo on Walden Ave.

The fair typically gets 500 to 700, organizers said.

Bill Simon, vice president of store operations for Value Home Centers, said not only are more people searching for jobs, but he's seeing better qualified applicants dedicated to finding new work.

"A year ago, I think, people were in denial, people were saying, 'I'm out of work, but something will come along,' " Simon said. "Today, I'm seeing people that are saying, 'I've been out of work for eight months, I've been out of work for nine months, I better get out and get a job.' And they're actually earnestly looking for work."
