The Response to Love Center near St. Adalbert Basilica needs volunteers to staff a new medical center on the East Side.
The facility, called Sisters Care Center, will advise people on health care by gathering personal medical histories and targeting specific concerns, such as how to deal with a disease or find health insurance, according to Dr. Shauna Zorich, Response to Love's medical director.
"Especially in the community we serve, there's not a priority placed on health care," Zorich said.
"They have other things that are more important: getting food on the table, paying rent, making sure the utilities are turned on."
Set to debut in November, the center is already training volunteers and needs people with a health care background, such as nurses or physicians, she said.
Response to Love has been in operation for 25 years out of the former St. Adalbert School building on Kosciuszko Street.
Other programs include a soup kitchen, food pantry, GED classes and computer training.
The care center will be free and will operate from 9 a.m. to midnight Monday through Wednesday.
Those interested should contact Zorich at 894-7030, Ext. 107.
