Chamber of Commerce opposes downsizing

The Alden Chamber of Commerce has come out in opposition to downsizing the Alden Town Board from five to three members.

Residents will vote on the proposal from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Alden Town Hall, 3311 Wende Road.

While acknowledging the public's frustration with government, the Chamber said the reduction "is a shortsighted move that may gain minimum cost savings but also cause more problems in the future." The Chamber board of directors said it also is concerned with concentrating too much power in the hands of too few elected officials.
