The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society presents its Paint the Town live art auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the museum at 25 Nottingham Court. During the past week, approximately 50 local artists spread throughout Buffalo to tackle the challenge of painting a complete work of art on location in six hours or less. The Opera-Lytes will host "A Fall Wine Tasting" fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. next Friday in the Buffalo Niagara Marriott Hotel, 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst. The event will feature wine and food samplings, plus musical entertainment by members of Opera-Lytes. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra invites local vocalists to audition for the conducting staff of the orchestra on Nov. 10. The BPO would like to introduce some of the local vocal talent to the new members of the BPO conducting staff: Matthew Kraemer, associate conductor, and Joseph Young, League of American Orchestras Conducting Fellow. Those who audition will be kept in mind for future projects including Pops, Runout or Family Series Concerts.

The Scriptapalooza Annual Screenwriting Competition, now in its 12th year, begins Thursday. The "Early Bird" deadline is Jan. 5, with an application fee of $40; the regular deadline is March 5, with an application fee of $50; the final deadline is April 15, with an application fee of $55. Squeaky Wheel is seeking artists to submit videos, films, artwork and performances to be part of the Dysfunctional Holiday Party. Submission deadline is Dec. 4.
