Rev. Terence McKissick, pastor at four churches, music teacher Nov. 18, 1962 -- Sept. 20, 2009

The Rev. Terence A. McKissick, a pastor and music teacher, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center after a long illness. He was 46.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. McKissick graduated from Riverside High School and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Brockport State College.

After being ordained in 1981, he served as a pastor at four churches: Blackwell Chapel AME Zion in Jamestown, Varick Metropolitan and Bailey Avenue AME Zion in Buffalo, and St. Mark's AME Zion in Lackawanna.

He was a music teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools from the 1990s until about 2003, when he became disabled.

Surviving are his wife, Monique Mims McKissick; a daughter, Charniesa; two sons, Terence A. Jr. and William; his mother, Zetna; and a sister, Denise Acie.

A service will be at noon Friday in Walls Memorial AME Zion Church, 455 Glenwood Ave.
