Assault charge follows stabbing in South Dayton
SOUTH DAYTON -- A Bemus Point man faces a felony assault charge in connection with the stabbing late Monday of a South Dayton man, Cattaraugus County sheriff's officials reported.
Police said that Kevin T. Klemens, 20, stabbed Joseph Westling, 50, at about 10 p.m. when Westling overheard a male and female arguing outside his Oak Street home and confronted them. Klemens stabbed him with the knife, but Westling restrained Klemens until deputies arrived at the scene.
Klemens was taken to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Vehicle is run off road; Mayville driver charged
MAYVILLE -- A Mayville woman faces reckless, drunken and drugged driving charges along with leaving the scene of an accident and various traffic violations after a late-afternoon incident Tuesday in and around Mayville, Chautauqua County sheriff's officials said.
Tammy M. Merritt, 38, is suspected of running a vehicle off the road on Chautauqua-Stedman Road in Chautauqua while driving a gray Ford Mustang just before 5:30 p.m.
Sheriff's officials then received additional calls about the Mustang being driven recklessly through Mayville nearly causing several collisions.
An off-duty assistant fire chief from the Chautauqua Fire Department followed the Mustang and provided police information about its location. Deputies caught up with it on Sea Lion Drive in Mayville and stopped Merritt.
She was released to a third party pending a future appearance in Chautauqua Town Court.
2 charged with trespassing caught harvesting pot
ROYALTON -- Two Middleport men charged with trespassing were caught harvesting marijuana Tuesday in a field behind a convenience store in the 7900 block of Rochester Road on Tuesday, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.
Scott M. Andrew, 21, of Graham Road, and Nicholas B. Dellario, 27, of State Street, were both charged just before 1 a.m. Dellario also was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies, who said the suspects told them their car had run out of gas, added that they found a bag of freshly harvested marijuana and a pair of scissors on Dellario. In the car, deputies said, they found a pen stem and white powder.
Further charges are pending.
