Arizona tight end Rob Gronkowski, the former Williamsville North star, will undergo back surgery and miss the rest of the season.
Arizona's all-conference junior was originally expected to play in the Iowa game last Saturday but was scratched midweek because of an ongoing back strain.
Gronkowski did not make the trip to Iowa City.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pound Gronkowski caught 47 passes for 672 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2008 despite missing the first three games with mono. He was expected to be Arizona's No. 1 offensive option as a junior.
It is unclear if Gronkowski will pursue a medical redshirt for this season; the tight end could consider leaving school for the NFL.
