Helen G. Morelewicz, who had been a registered nurse for more than half a century, died Saturday in Ridge View Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was 91.
Mrs. Morelewicz was born in Buffalo and graduated from East High School, where she played flute in the school band and orchestra, and All-High Orchestra. She graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and worked 52 years as a registered nurse with her late husband, Dr. Henry V., before retiring in 1994.
Mrs. Morelewicz was active with Catholic Charities Appeals, Queen of Martyrs Church and the St. Joseph Hospital Women's Guild.
In 1993, the Morelewiczes were recipients of the Villa Maria College Circle of Friends Award for Philanthropic and Humanitarian Achievements. Mrs. Morelewicz received the St. Joseph the Worker Award in 2000.
The Morelewiczes enjoyed traveling and visited Europe, South America, Russia and Japan.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Majchrzak, and two sons, James and Paul.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Queen of Martyrs Church, 180 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga, after prayers at 9 in Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home, 85 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga.
