Public hearing set on unfinished budget
LOCKPORT -- Although the Common Council voted last week to hold a public hearing on the 2010 city budget at 6 p.m. Sept. 30, it still doesn't know how much the budget will be or what the tax rate will be.
Council President John Lombardi III said Budget Director Richard P. Mullaney will draw up some detailed totals and present them to the Council next week.
The Council spent nearly an hour behind closed doors Wednesday, talking about union contract talks and their impact on the spending plan, which is expected to include allocations for raises.
Also Wednesday, the Council accepted a $400,000 small-cities block grant for its aid program to low-income first-time home buyers. Lockport receives such a grant almost annually.
