>Bill would give $400,000 for resurfacing of runway

NIAGARA FALLS -- A transportation spending bill that passed the Senate on Thursday includes $400,000 to help rehabilitate a runway at Niagara Falls International Airport, said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.

The money would be used to resurface the main runway. The airport is undergoing a $42.5 million renovation to add a new terminal and to make apron and landside improvements.

>'Play Day' will mark playful city designation

NIAGARA FALLS -- The city will hold a "Play Day" event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hyde Park spray park.

Games, a bounce house and more will be available in the park near the corner of Hyde Park Boulevard and Pine Avenue.

The celebration is in recognition of the city being named a "Playful USA City" by a Washington-based nonprofit organization, KaBoom! If it rains, the festivities will be moved to the LaSalle Recreation Facility, 9501 Colvin Blvd.

>Administrator leaves for Franklinville position

SANBORN -- Longtime Niagara Wheatfield Central School District official Michelle Spasiano has moved on to the top spot in Franklinville.

The School Board accepted the resignation of the assistant superintendent for instruction and curriculum Wednesday and expressed regret that the district's students were losing a dedicated administrator. Spasiano has accepted an appointment as superintendent of the Franklinville Central School District, it was noted.
