Here's a cheap plug for Sunday's running column, which hopefully will be as much fun to read as it was to write. I collected some stories about what can go wrong in a road race. Trust me, the list is endless. I didn't even have room to include the tale of the race director who heard a couple of hours before her race that a construction crane had "appeared" right in the middle of her course.
When you're done reading, you'll hopefully laugh as well as respect the job of race director a little bit more -- and feel free to leave a comment with your own horror story of a mishap in a race.
Here's the weekend schedule, with details available at buffalorunners.com:
* Joanne Severin Cinelli Memorial 5K, Friday at 6:30 p.m. in South Park in Buffalo. It's the next-to-last Friday night race on the calendar, as the days get shorter.
* Lebro's Fall Classic 5K, Saturday at 10 a.m. in Getzville. I usually run this race for the sweatshirts, which are top-notch.
* Shea's 5K Run for the Arts, Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in Buffalo.
* Runnin' With Jesus - Oktoberfest 5K, Sunday at noon in Newfane. Pastor Garry continues his march toward having a race every single weekend of the year.
