Franklin W. Kester, a farm owner and former tax receiver for the Town of Elma, died Monday in Mercy Hospital. He was 49.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Kester graduated from Iroquois High School and the Naval Academy Preparatory School.
He served in the Navy for six years, until he was discharged in 1983.
Mr. Kester grew vegetables and gladiolus as owner and operator of Kester Farms on Northrup Road in Elma.
He was elected as the town's tax receiver in the mid-1990s and served 10 years.
Mr. Kester was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6861, the Elma Conservation Club, the East Aurora Farmers Market Association and the Western New York Umpires Association.
He served on the board of directors of Elma, Marilla and Wales Baseball and Softball, where he also coached and was past commissioner. He was a past member of the Elma Business Association.
Mr. Kester is survived by his wife of 18 years, the former Barbara Andres; a daughter, Helen; a son, Lewis; his parents, Ann and Frank Kester; and two sisters, Mary Rude and Susan Lynch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6441 Seneca St., Springbrook. Prayers will be said at 8:45 in Paul A. Kloc Blossom Chapels, 4680 Clinton St., West Seneca.
