ESPN's Monday Night Crew Has Strong Opener

There will be a lot of things to complain about after the Buffalo Bills lost another Monday Night Football heartbreaker, 25-24, to the New England Patriots.

But at least you couldn't complain too much about the ESPN announcing team of play-by-play man Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden. They had a strong game analyzing the Bills' surprising strong showing by quarterback Trent Edwards, the inexperienced offensive line and the defense.

If he would cut down on his identification mistakes (like having Randy Moss playing for the Bills), Tirico would be the best play-by-play man in the NFL.

He always puts things in perspective. With about five minutes left and the Bills holding a surprising 24-13 lead, Tirico said: "This is why sports is cool. You don't know what script is going to play out."

Of course, Bills fans have seen this script before. It wasn't long before Tirico noted that the Bills lost a Monday night heartbreaker in 2007 to Dallas by the same score in the last second.

If you want to read more about the announcers performance Monday night, read my review in Tuesday's Buffalo News. What did you think of the announcers and the coverage?
