Former Niagara Falls High School star Tyrell Lynch has left UMass.
A sophomore forward, Lynch was brought in
by previous coach Travis Ford, who left for Oklahoma State, in 2007. He never played for Ford,
sitting out the 2007-08 season for academic reasons.
Lynch averaged 3.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 16.4 minutes last year, which was Derek Kellogg's first as coach. He played in all 30 games and started five.
Kellogg said he knew as early as last spring, though, that Lynch might not be a good fit for this team.
"We just thought it would be better for Tyrell this way, and better for us," Kellogg said.
Asked if he and Lynch "just didn't click" as coach and player, Kellogg said, "I guess that would be a fair way to put it."
