John T. McGrath, a longtime Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. superintendent, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. He was 79.
A West Seneca native, he graduated from West Seneca Central High School in 1948.
Mr. McGrath joined Niagara Mohawk in 1948 and held various jobs during his 42-year tenure at the utility, retiring in 1990 as regional superintendent for building construction and maintenance.
He was an active 60-year member and business agent for Local 1339, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and also served as president of Connors 901 Social and Service Club.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Sally Ann Bosz; a son, James; a daughter, Susan Palmer; and a sister, Marilyn Coughlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. today in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
