Men's hockey

Canisius coach Dave Smith has received a contract extention through the 2012-13 season.

Smith guided the program to its first two wins over a nationally ranked opponent since moving to Division I during last year's 15-16-6 campaign. Canisius also earned its first two wins over foes that play in a major conference. The Griffs earned each of those historic wins on the road.

In four years under Smith, Canisius is 45-82-18 overall and 39-59-14 in Atlantic Hockey Association.

Women's soccer

Katie Kerr scored an unassisted goal in the final minute as the University at Buffalo beat Niagara, 1-0. Goalkeeper Amy Coron made seven saves for UB (1-5-0). . . Former Starpoint star Nicole Borner will play twice locally as Binghamton plays at Niagara (Friday, 7 p.m.) and the University at Buffalo (Sunday, noon).

Women's volleyball

Dani Silvers had 16 kills and Tori Beckman got 15 digs to lead the University at Buffalo (4-3) to a 3-0 victory over Niagara (5-3). . . . Erie Community College (8-0) is ranked No. 7 in this week's NJCAA Division III poll.

Men's soccer

Medaille's Gary Boughton (Lancaster) became the NCAA Division III leader with his 64th assist in an 8-1 win over Wells.
