Jack Jurek of Lackawanna defeated Michael Fagan in a rolloff in the final match to capture the PBA Shark Championship Sunday night, his first title since 1995 on the major professional bowling tour. The victory was worth $25,000.
Jurek took a 12-pin lead, 171-159, with a strike on his first ball in the 10th, but missed a chance to close out the match when he knocked down seven pins, then spared for 218. Fagan threw two strikes in the 10th, but left a pin on his third ball to also finish at 218. Jurek struck on the rolloff, while Fagan left two pins.
Jurek, 46, reached the final by opening with six strikes in a 255-213 semifinal win over Wes Malott. His only other Tour title came March 25, 1995 at the Tums Classic in Windsor Locks, Conn.
Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga lost in the final of the Women's Series Scorpion Championship to Shannon Pluhowsky, 192-177.
