UB-UTEP Observations

UB 23, UTEP 17

Zach Maynard as CBS Player of the Game? Not sure I would have gone there. Give me linebacker Justin Winters, a whirlwind yet again. Maynard was solid with the conservative offense he oversaw. His poise on the inside screen to Naaman Roosevelt that went for six was exemplary. And that was a perfectly timed call by offensive coordinator Danny Barrett.

Bulls offensive line performed above expectations. Lot to like about Niagara-Wheatfield grad Robert Colpoys. And sr, center Matt Bacoulis had a key blocked in springing Roosevelt on the TD screen. But it was UTEP, who Bulls ran all over last year.

Super game by nickel back Sherrod Lott.

Missed FG by kicker A.J. Principe almost came back to haunt them. He also hooked two EXP just inside the upright. From my soccer-playing days I can tell you. field composition can mess with your plant foot. I'm guessing that was the case.

Announcer Dave Ryan said it would be a "travesty" if last UTEP TD was negated (which it was). A travesty? CBS cameramen failed to supply supporting evidence.

Dominic Cook return of free kick following UTEP safety was the turning point of the game.

Bulls looked like they might be blown out after first two Miners' series. Seems there's a definite carryover from last year. They know how to persevere.
