Donald J. Brogan, a longtime Bethlehem Steel employee whose passion for music resonated throughout the community, died Friday in Fiddler's Green Manor, Springville. He was 80.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Brogan graduated from Blasdell High School in 1945. An Army veteran, he was based in Korea through 1947.
A Town of Hamburg resident, Mr. Brogan was employed at Bethlehem Steel for 37 years until his retirement in 1985.
A member of the Society of Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, he served as musical director of the Hamburg Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. He also was choir director of Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Blasdell, and director of the Nurses Choir of Mercy Hospital.
He also coached many years for the Hamburg Little Loop Football Club.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Joan Harmon; two daughters, Melody Hickok and Jill Christensen; three sons, Terrance, Sean and Colin; four brothers, Robert, William, Richard and Daniel; and two sisters, Mary Brogan Watson and Carol Sargente.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, East Main Street, Hamburg.
