Sister Eileen Britt, 90, longtime diocesan educator <br> June 13, 1918 -- Feb. 25, 2009

Sister Eileen Britt, a longtime educator in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 90.

Sister Eileen was born in Buffalo. After earning a bachelor's degree in French from D'Youville College in 1939, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph that September. She pronounced her vows Aug. 29, 1942.

She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now Medaille College, in 1945. Sister Eileen's career in elementary education began at Christ the King School in Snyder in 1939, and she went on to many schools throughout the diocese.

In her last assignment, at Cathedral School from 1977 to 1979, she served as assistant principal, librarian and reading coordinator.

She was an administrative aide at the Sisters' Residence in Clarence until her retirement in 2000.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 7 p.m today at in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
