>Father charged after son is found along road

SANBORN -- An Upper Mountain Road man was charged with endangering after a young boy was discovered wandering along the road with no jacket, shoes or socks Thursday morning.

Bryan J. Cheape, 37, who was awakened by a Niagara County sheriff's deputy, said he thought his son was "running around the house," deputies said. Deputies responded to the report of a motorist who almost struck the child just after 11 a.m. in the 3000 block of Upper Mountain.

The boy's mother assumed custody, deputies said.


>Four injured in crash of SUV, car in Murray

MURRAY -- Four people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash at Route 31 and Hulberton Road in the Town of Murray about 8 p.m. Thursday, Orleans County sheriff's deputies said.

Officers said a southbound SUV driven by Joshua M. Christopher, 19, of Greece, ran a stop sign on Hulberton and crossed into the path of an eastbound car on Route 31 driven by Richard S. Kincaid, 51, of Brockport. The SUV flipped onto its side, and emergency crews had to free Kincaid's wife, Laurie, 51, from the wreckage, deputies said. Their son, Joseph, 21, was thrown from the car.

Christopher, who was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, was taken to Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport. Kincaid was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, while his wife and son were airlifted to Strong by Mercy Flight.


>Fire caused by child displaces seven people

NIAGARA FALLS -- A young child playing with a lighter started a fire that displaced seven people from their home at 1122 1/2 Pierce Ave., Niagara Falls Fire Chief William D. MacKay said.

MacKay said adults attempted to extinguish the fire, which broke out shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, but by the time firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the second-story window. Firefighters had the fire under control in 30 minutes. Damage was estimated at $20,000,
