Educators are hoping to go wireless throughout the Niagara Wheatfield Central School system next year.
A technology budget presentation to the School Board on Wednesday by Mary-anne Buch featured a request to provide wireless Internet access for computers in all the district schools in the 2009-10 school year.
Installation of the hardware, as well as software and a specialized encrypted security system would cost about $485,000. School business executive Kerin Dumphrey said the cost would be eligible for reimbursement up to 76 percent through the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
The district budget has not been finalized, but the installation is expected to be part of it. In a related matter, the board scheduled the budget public hearing for 7 p.m. May 6 in the adult learning center of the senior high school, 2292 Saunders Settlement Road. The budget vote is set for May 19.
