Monks' visit highlights 130th summer season

LILY DALE -- Lily Dale's 130th summer season officially opens June 26 with the flag-raising ceremony at 1 p.m. and traditional Silver Tea later in the day.

One of the features of the season will be an appearance by the Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, June 27-30.

An opening ceremony will be held June 27, with a performance of sacred music and dances that evening.

From June 27 to 29, the monks will create a colorful sand mandala in the Assembly Hall.

On June 30 the monks will hold a closing ceremony, placing the mandala's sand into Cassadaga Lake in a gesture meant to disperse its healing energies.

Other special events include two shows by "Ghost Hunters" TV personalities Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson July 25-26; and workshops by author and psychic medium Michelle Whitedove on July 31, spiritual medium Rosemary Altea on Aug. 8, paranormal investigator Chris Fleming on Aug. 15 and author Robert Schwartz and psychic Corbie Mitleid on Aug. 22.

The annual Victorian Weekend is set for July 10-12.

There will be a costume party on Aug. 8 to benefit the Lily Dale Assembly Endowment Fund.

The annual Memorial Concert will be held Aug. 21. And the end-of-season dance is set for Sept. 5.
