Delphi retirees get hung out to dry

A bankruptcy judge has ruled  that troubled auto parts maker Delphi Corp. can cancel health-care benefits and life insurance for its retired salaried workers.

The company said it will save $70 million a year and eliminate $1.1 billion in debt.

The cuts come at a time when the United Auto Workers are negotiating to keep benefits for its members as the auto industry struggles to survive.

But the cuts to promised benefits raises the question: is it fairto renege on a promise to your workers?
