Two consecutive crashes, the second probably caused by the first, tied up traffic Saturday morning on the inbound Kensington Expressway.
At 9:02 a.m., a car was struck from behind by a second car on the westbound side of Route 33, near Route 198. The car that was hit then smashed into the median. Firefighters used lifesaving equipment to extricate the two women inside that car. They were taken to Erie County Medical Center where they were treated and released.
Then, at 9:25 a.m., a car that had to stop suddenly because of the 9:02 a.m. crash was struck from behind by another car. No one was injured in the second crash.
Five others were evaluated at the scene but were not taken to the hospital.
