The Law Offices of David V. Jaworski, located at 2988 William St., Cheektowaga, named Mario A. Giacobbe a partner with the firm. The firm will continue practice as The Law Offices of Jaworski and Giacobbe. Previously, Giacobbe served for nearly 12 years as an assistant district attorney for the Erie County District Attorney's Office and as chief of the Erie County District Attorney's DWI Bureau for five years. In addition, Giacobbe is currently the deputy town attorney/town prosecutor in the Town of Tonawanda, a position he has held since July of 2006. He received his bachelor's degree in English from Canisius College and his Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

One Source Marketing President Marta K. Hiczewski was named chairperson of the "Buffalo's Smartest Company" event to benefit Cradle Beach Camp. Local companies will compete for a trophy proving them the Smartest Company in Western New York in a three-round trivia contest supplied by BuzzTime and sponsored by Connors and Vilardo, Calspan, The Buffalo News, Regent Broadcasting and WKBW-TV. The event will be held at 6 p.m. April 7 in Classics V restaurant, 2425 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst. One Source Marketing is a sales, marketing, event management and specialty merchandise company located in West Falls.

The Hamister Group appointed Philip J. Pantano director of communications. Pantano was previously director of public relations and public affairs at Seneca Gaming Corp. He is a St. Bonaventure University graduate. The Hamister Group is a Buffalo-based health care and hotel management company.

The Erie/Niagara Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers presented its 2009 Engineering Educator of the Year Award to James R. Bates, James A. Carr, Gino Forte, James Jensen, Albert E. Low, Robert A. Mathisen, Donald R. McMahon, Jon C. Olstad, Richard A. VanSlooten and Richard Weimer, members of a volunteer group who develop and present a review course for graduate engineers who are preparing to take the state examination qualifying them as licensed professional engineers. Other awardees: Engineer of the Year, Robert A. Niederpruem; Citizen of the Year, Karen A. Armstrong, director of Geomatics Technology for ATSI Engineering Services, in recognition of her work as chair of the annual Future Cities design competition for seventh and eighth grade students; Engineering Manager of the Year, Gerard J. Sentz, the commissioner of public works for Erie County since 2000; Basinski-Wohler Distinguished Service Award, Peter A. vom Scheidt, an engineer with Wendel Duchscherer, presented annually to honor an engineer for efforts on behalf of society programs.

Ivoclar Vivadent, a manufacturer of high quality materials used in dentistry, promoted Sarah K. Anders to general manager of Ivoclar Vivadent Canada and vice president of Ivoclar Vivadent North America. She maintains an office in Amherst in addition to her office in Mississauga. Anders joined the company in 2003 and most recently, served as director of Canadian Operations and director of Technical Marketing for Ivoclar Vivadent North America. She has more than 15 years of experience in the dental industry. Anders received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and her MBA from Penn State University.
