>Shot fired into kitchen of Wheatfield home

WHEATFIELD -- A Steig Road resident told a Niagara County sheriff's deputy that someone shot a bullet through her kitchen window Tuesday night.

The woman told a deputy she and her family were watching television in the family room when they heard glass shatter in the kitchen.

As she started to sweep up the glass, she found a bullet on the floor, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

The incident happened at about 7:25 p.m. in a home on the north side of Steig, between Nash Road and Fairmount Park.

The woman told the deputy she didn't hear any gunshots around the time of the incident.

>Pilot escapes injury when plane taxis away

BYRON -- An 80-year-old pilot escaped injury when the small airplane he was warming up taxied out of control across a cornfield and into an apple tree Tuesday afternoon.

Genesee County sheriff's deputies say John Sackett Jr., the former supervisor of the Town of Byron, had just spun the propeller to start the two-seater and was revving the engine from outside the cockpit when the plane jumped a piece of wood blocking one of its wheels.

Sackett chased the plane as it motored off his property, through a berry patch and into a post and trellis before hitting the tree.
