>Procession time changed for soldier killed in Iraq

LOCKPORT -- The time for today's funeral procession for Pfc. Albert R. Jex has been changed, and residents are asked to line the route starting at 9:30 a.m., according to the Lockport group Partnership in Patriotism.

Jex's body will be driven from Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 6965 Chestnut Ridge Road, for services at 11 a.m. The route is to follow Genesee and Washburn streets and East Avenue.
Jex, 23, who was killed Feb. 9 in Iraq, is to be buried in Cold Spring Cemetery.

>Thompson to keynote Black History luncheon

NIAGARA FALLS -- State Sen. Antoine M. Thompson, D-Buffalo, will be the keynote speaker during a Black History Month luncheon Friday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

The luncheon is part of a daylong celebration at the hospital and the Schoellkopf Health Center.

The annual observance will start at 10:30 a.m. with "Healthy Steps," a program on mastering diabetes through healthy lifestyle changes led by Pamela Beamer of the Western New York Association of Diabetes Educators.

>Gillibrand assigned to Environment Committee

WASHINGTON Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, D-N.Y., has been assigned to the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.

She will also serve on three subcommittees: Superfund, Toxics and Environmental Health, Oversight and Green Jobs and the New Economy.
