Live blogging from Bowling Green vs. Buffalo

Bowling Green 59, UB 48, Final:Tough night for the Bulls. UB dropped back-to-back games for the second time this season, and tightened up the Mid-American Conference East Di.

The Bulls were coming off a loss last Sunday at Ball State, but could pull into a first-place tie with Miami (Ohio) if the RedHawks defeat Akron tonight. UBhad trouble figuring out Bowling Green’s 2-3 zone defense which forced 16 turnovers. The Bulls shot just 34 percent from the floor and never looked comfortable offensively.

Bowling Gree, who also beat UB on Jan. 10, was led by the hot hand of Brian Moten, who came off the bench and scored 22 points. The Bulls were led by Rodney Pierce’s 13 points and 10 from Calvin Betts. The Bulls take a break from MAC play with a BracketBuster game at Vermont on Saturday.

Bowling Green 48, UB 41, 6:26 left: UB is playing much better defensively, but they still aren't shooting well and settling for too many jumpers. John Boyer's three-pointer, however, has pulled them within seven again. It's hard to believe BG is coming off a loss to Eastern Michigan the way its playing.

Bowling Green 41, UB 32, 15:55 left: The Bulls pulled within seven on a three-pointer by Betts but after a missed three from Gamble, Nate Miller converted a layup as he was fouled by Pierce and is going to the line.

Bowling Green 37, UB 27, 18:18 in the second half: Maybe UB is ready to play. A steal by Greg Gamble led to a Rodney Pierce layup and after another BG turnover, Pierce drilled a three and BG coach Louis Orr called time out. Chris Knight is in his street clothes on the bench with a knee injury for BG.

Bowling Green 37, UB 22, halftime: This has to be the worst first 20 minutes of the season for the Bulls. On offense, the Bulls aren't attacking the Falcons' 2-3 zone and settling for jump shots. They made just 3 of 14 shots from beyond the arc and 8 of 27 overall. Defensively, they are having trouble stopping Brian Moten, who has 11 points off the bench. The Falcons bench has outscored UB 23-22. The second half has to be about penetrating the gaps of the zone and getting easy baskets. The Bulls are playing decent defense, but the Falcons are hot from the floor. Hopefully, for the Bulls sake, they will cool off.

Bowling Green 28, UB 15, 7:06 left in the half: The Falcons BENCH is outscoring the Bulls at this point, 16-15.

Bowling Green 21, UB 12, 9:45 left in the half: The Falcons are getting dribble penetration and feeding their big men for easy baskets. Defensively, their 2-3 zone is forcing turnovers. If the Bulls can't figure out how to stop BG's penetration and hit some open jump shots, it could be a long night.

UB 9, Bowling Green 8, 15:45 left in the half: The Bulls were sleepwalking and committed some unforced errors but took the lead on a Calvin Betts three-pointer, which is a good sign because the junior from Rochester had been struggling. UB already has four turnovers.

Bowling Green 4, UB 0, 19:10 left in the half: Chris Knight, who scored the game's first FG went down hard. It looks like a knee injury. He was helped off the floor by teammates Otis Polk and Nate Miller.
