Daniel W. Lougen Sr., Buffalo firefighter <br> Aug. 7, 1932 -- Feb. 17, 2009

Daniel W. Lougen Sr., an Army veteran of the Korean War and retired City of Buffalo firefighter, died Tuesday in his Eggertsville home after a battle with leukemia. He was 76.

Born in Buffalo, he lived in Western New York for his entire life. He was a graduate of Burgard Vocational High School.

Mr. Lougen was a 35-year veteran of the Buffalo Fire Department and rose to the rank of lieutenant before he retired in 1994. He served at Hook and Ladder 11, Firehouse 26 and Firehouse 23.

During his career, he received several awards for bravery in the line of duty.

He was a parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Eggertsville and was a member of its Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Joan C. Maggio; two daughters, Patricia Krock and Joan Edick; two sons, Daniel W. Jr. and John C.; and a sister, Loretta Stevens.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Benedict Church, 1317 Eggert Road at Main Street, Eggertsville.
