Last month Kent State coach Geno Ford said he thought Rodney Pierce had progressed in so many facets of the game that he was having a Turner Battle-like effect on UB. Perhaps, but Pierce rarely plays the point, so it's a bit of a reach to group him with the 2005 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. But do you know who is starting to remind me of Battle? Niagara point guard Anthony Nelson. Nobody in the Big Four has better court vision, anticipation and passing skills than the sophomore from Plainfield, N.J. Nelson still needs to develop as a shooter, but the same was true of Battle during his early years at UB. It'll be interesting to see how Nelson evolves over the next two seasons.
