A memorial service for Cantor Susan Wehle, a spiritual leader in Buffalo's Jewish community for the last 16 years, will be at 11 a.m. today in Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive, Amherst.
Cantor Wehle died Thursday in the crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 on her way home from a vacation in Costa Rica. She was 55.
Ordained by the Jewish Renewal Movement, she was the cantor at Temple Beth Am since 2002 and was previously a cantorial soloist at Amherst's Temple Sinai for nine years.
She earned degrees in Judaic studies and theater from the University at Buffalo and in acting from the Goodman School of Drama.
Cantor Wehle appeared with theater companies in Buffalo, Chicago and New York, taught musical and spiritual workshops and conducted youth and adult choirs. A former member of Actors Equity, she also appeared in local films and television commercials.
She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of the American Conference of Cantors.
Survivors include two sons, Jonah Wehle Mink and Jacob Wehle Mink; two sisters, Eva Friedner and Dana Wehle; and a brother, John Wehle.
