Ellyce Kausner, second-year law student devoted to her family Dec. 13, 1984 -- Feb. 12, 2009

Services for Ellyce Kausner, a law student who died Thursday in the crash of Continental Flight 3407, will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Love Joy Gospel Church, 5423 Genesee St., Lancaster.

Ms. Kausner, 24, was born in Buffalo and grew up in Clarence. She graduated from Clarence High School and Canisius College, and was a second-year student at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville.

At Canisius, she won the Michael F. Dillon Scholarship, given to a senior who shows the greatest potential for the study of law.

Friends and family described her as bright, bubbly and magnetic. Known as "Elly," she had a mental list of things to do in life and did them, including sky diving, wake boarding and, shortly before her death, swimming with dolphins, said her father, John.

Family members said she was devoted to her family, especially four nephews and a niece, and was passionate about nature and animals, especially her two cats. Ms. Kausner was traveling home to visit her family and boyfriend before final exams.

In addition to her father, survivors include her mother, Marilyn; a brother, Chris; a sister, Laura Voigt; and her boyfriend, Daniel Bognar.
