>Bandits take cash, drugs from home on 20th Street
NIAGARA FALLS -- A woman was robbed of $250 and a hefty stash of marijuana during an armed home invasion Saturday night, police said.
Two men burst into the home in the 400 block of 20th Street at about 8:40 p.m., pistol-whipping a Whitney Avenue resident while demanding drugs and money.
The bandits, each with faces covered and one brandishing a handgun, confronted the 48-year-old homeowner and took her money, as well as a pound of marijuana and a triple-beam scale.
They also fled with a quantity of unidentified pills. A Lewiston woman outside the home was robbed of $200 by the fleeing pair.
>Town of Niagara fire destroys mobile home
TOWN OF NIAGARA -- A fast-moving fire shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday destroyed a mobile home in Expressway Village off Porter Road, Niagara County fire officials said.
The resident, identified as April Urban, 37, and a 5-year-old child fled safely after fire broke out in a bedroom, Town of Niagara Police Officer Sal Paonessa said. Firefighters were hampered by a frozen fire hydrant.
"It was rough," Town of Niagara Active Hose Fire Chief Dan Hosie said. Upper Mountain Fire Company also battled the blaze.
>Police make arrest in ski shop theft
LOCKPORT -- A Prentice Street teenager was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny Friday in connection with the theft of as much as $4,356 in cash from a city business July 10.
Michael G. Gutschow, 18, was arrested by Detective Lt. John Yotter, who said Gutschow is charged with entering the Snowflake Ski Shop, 245 S. Transit St.
A safe containing $3,500 to $4,000 and a cash drawer containing $356 were stolen from the shop.
The name of a second suspect is known to police, who continue to look for him.
