*Niagara won't be heading into a key series with College Hockey America contender Bemidji State on a winning note. The Purple Eagles' five-game unbeaten streak and three-game winning streak ended Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Alabama-Huntsville at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala. The Chargers (5-16-3, 3-8-3) took a 3-0 lead through two periods on a pair of goals by Andrew Coburn and a single tally by Kevin Morrison. Vince Rocco scored midway through the third period for Niagara (15-11-2, 8-3-1), which failed to make it two comeback wins in as many games at the VBC. NU's offense had trouble generating shots, firing 11 through 40 minutes before peppering Huntsville goalie Cameron Talbot with that same number in the third period.
*Carl Hudson, ranked No. 3 in the NCAA in goals by a defenseman, scored twice for Canisius (13-11-6, 11-9-4) in a 5-1 win over American International College in the Atlantic Hockey Association. The game was played before 912 at the Amherst Pepsi Center as the Griffs completed a four-game season sweep of AIC.
All of the offensive records that matter at Niagara (4-22-4, 1-9-2 in CHA) now belong to senior Ashley Riggs. One day after becoming the program's all-time points leader, she passed Valerie Hall for the career goals mark by netting the 78th of her career during a 4-3 loss at Wayne State (19-5-2, 10-2). Riggs has 144 career points and also owns the all-time assists mark (66), records previously held by Valerie Hall.
Fredonia's Kelly Sponholz (Alden), a six-time Division III All-American, won the 1-meter diving title in SUNYAC meet fashion, amassing 471.95 points in the women's meet won by Geneseo. Buffalo State's men's and women's teams finished last.
