Canisius at track states

Two Canisius athletes enter today's New York State Catholic Indoor Track and Field Championships as No. 1 seeds. Jordan Hamm is the top seed in the 1,600 meters with a 4:15.70 and John Urschel is the favorite in the shot put at 57 feet. They are among 17 from Canisius who qualified to compete in the event being held at the Armory in New York City.

Coach Brian Lombardo said Hamm had a great week of practice. "He's as confident as I've even seen," he said. "He's got a strong race plan and seems to thrive in the bigger meets. We're anticipating positive results."

Lombardo said Urschel doesn't show a lot of emotion, but he's been talking about this event all week. "This has been his goal all season long -- to win this meet and go for a state title. He's got a good chance if he doesn't get too fidgety in the circle and takes his time," said Lombardo.
