For an art exhibition focusing on bad luck and love, there couldn't be a more appropriate time to open than on this particularly amorous and unlucky night. On the eve of Valentine's Day and the first Friday the 13th in 2009, the brand-new 464 gallery (464 Amherst St.) is opening its doors with "Bad Love," a show that will feature more than 20 under-the-radar local artists exploring themes of love and luck.
The new gallery, started by artists Jill Hart and Marcus L. Wise, is intended to add a bit of flavor to an otherwise unspectacular section of Amherst Street near Buffalo State College on Buffalo's West Side.
"It is our hope," the artists wrote in a statement, "that our unique and youthful gallery space for emerging, local artists will help to revitalize this section of Amherst Street, while providing a one-of-a-kind space for artists of all types in the Buffalo area to show, share and sell their work."
