Orchard Park's Sam Fowler won the gold medal at the NRA Four Position Junior Smallbore Rifle sectional match in Jamestown recently. Fowler scored 385 out of 400 possible points and was perfect (100 points) in both the prone and sitting positions. He also had 22 center shots.

BASEBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball will be holding a two-hour catching clinic Tuesday for baseball and softball from noon to 2 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. To register, call 681-3001 or visit www.buffaloschoolofbaseball.com.

BASKETBALL: The Buffalo Storm AAU club is holding tryouts for boys and girls this weekend. Boys tryouts are Saturday (2-4 p.m.) and Sunday (1-3 p.m.) at the Baker School, 777 Ridge Road, South Buffalo. Girls tryouts are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Sunday. Call Tim Schulz at 472-5330. . . . The Upstate Elite teams will hold tryouts at the Bob Lanier Center in the old Turner-Carroll High School on Monday. Tryouts cost $10. Boys and girls in fifth through eighth grades will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Boys and girls in grades 9-11 will be from noon to 2 p.m. . . . The Buffalo Upstate Academy will offer a six-week instruction course beginning Feb. 28. Cost is $75. For details on the Elite tryouts or the course, contact Jeff Burke at 444-8723. . . . Teams needed for "B" and "C" leagues beginning Feb. 22 for Monday and Thursday evenings. Call 839-9330. . .The Family 25, Inc. and the Delevan-Grider Community Center present "Education through Basketball" clinic Tuesday from 9:30 to 3 p.m. All interested student-athletes must preregister.
