Man to share his story about life without limbs

Nick Vujicic, president of Life Without Limbs, will share his story about learning to live a full life with no arms and legs during a talk at 7 p.m. today in Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church, 8445 Greiner Road, Clarence.

His visit is sponsored by Heritage Christian Services as part of the organization's 25th anniversary. Tickets are free, but seats are limited. Tickets are available by calling 633-1117.

Fire Dept. will get grant to buy protective items

The City of Buffalo Fire Department will collect $758,400 in federal homeland security funds through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, told Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown on Wednesday.

The money will buy protective equipment for use by firefighters in battling more than 60,000 fire, EMS and hazardous materials calls each year.

Nearly $7 million awarded to People Inc. housing site

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo, has announced that People Inc., a local nonprofit for the disabled, has received nearly $7 million for a new independent senior housing site in West Seneca.

This brings the total of federal support awarded to People Inc. to more than $100 million and the number of senior housing apartment buildings to 18 since the organization was founded in 1994.
